Elan Data Makers: Services & Technology: EDI Services

EDI SERVICES

Electronic Data Interchange, or EDI, is a process that allows computers to "talk" to each other, exchanging business transactions that have historically been transmitted via paper or telephone. EDI provides a standard whereby companies can exchange business transactions electronically. Currently, EDI is used to exchange a range of documents from invoices to purchase orders to financial data. The advantages offered by an EDI system include reduced paper-flow and a faster turnaround time providing those who use a system of EDI with a competitive edge.

élan has successfully assist a number of clients with the implementation and on-going support of EDI systems in Vancouver, Victoria and Calgary. In doing so, élan has established systems and support networks with a number of Value Added Network Suppliers (VANS) including GEISS, TDNI and the IBM Global Network (Advantis). These VANS ensure a secure method for the transmission and receipt of data.

élan's EDI experience is solid and includes a wide range of industries and software solutions including Premenos and GEISS. Currently, our Victoria operation is working closely with the Ministry of Forests to provide data entry services and subsequent EDI transmissions of timber harvest data for invoicing purposes. Additionally, since 1994 our Vancouver Branch has been providing EDI services to the International Air Transportation Association as part of the many services élan provides as the CASS Settlement Office. In this role, élan processes over 550,000 airway bills and facilitates the electronic distribution of over two hundred and twenty million dollars annually.

élan's knowledge of EDI is not limited to our BC Branches. In Alberta, our Calgary Branch works closely with many of the major Oil & Gas Companies to ensure the timely submission of production accounting statistics to the Department of Energy. In this case, paper documents are sent to élan for data entry and, subsequently, transmitted via EDI to enable the Crown to calculate royalty payments and the resulting invoice.
